Having severe pain after lap ban surgery, is it some infection?

Five days have passed after I had lap band surgery. I know healing process can go around weeks or more, but I am having severe pain. The pain resembles to waves after 20-30 seconds that starts from stomach and end near left shoulder. Because of the pain my jaw clenches, also I am having problems in breathing. I don’t think its normal is it? And how long is this going to last.

Probably some lap band infection has occurred because as such unexpected symptoms indicate complications and this calls out the need for seeking medical attention at earliest possible particularly when continuing for long just like bleeding and other infections require. The doctors can recommend you a pair of heating pads for relieving problems related to gas for both front and back of shoulder. Pain relievers and digestive aids like carrot juice, peppermint tea or ginger ale are also there.

Patients undergoing lap ban surgery usually experience shoulder pain during first few days of recovery. The pain occurs because the carbon dioxide injected into the body cavity presses nerves of the diaphragm after which the irritated nerves carry their pain message up into shoulder area, and as the carbon dioxide dissipates the pain reduces.

Though not an infection, but shoulder pain may be the result of overeating and must be prevented or it can lead to vomiting etc. As per doctors when patients stretch the capacity of their “new” stomach (obtained after lap band) shoulder or chest pains and abdominal pressure or queasiness may occur. However if this continues more than a week or so you should immediately rush to your surgeon.
